This section provides details about equipment safety requirements, precautions, usage instructions, shutdown procedures and includes information about fuel types, and instructions for refuelling equipment.

General Equipment Guidelines

Ensure you use the appropriate tool for the task and make sure it is fit for the purpose and well maintained. Always ensure electrical appliances used are tested and tagged, and that only trained persons are to use the equipment.

Ensure all users wear appropriate protective clothing for their own safety, including:

  • Ear muffs
  • Safety glasses
  • A long sleeved shirt
  • Long trousers or skirt
  • A 'broad spectrum' sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30+ applied 20 minutes before working outdoors
  • Enclosed shoes, such as joggers or working boots

Ensure all users work in accordance with any relevant operating instructions. Once a task is completed clean and store the equipment appropriately, and dispose of any waste, lawn clippings, litter in an appropriate manner to minimise the likelihood of pollution occurring.
