Fuelling

For your own safety please observe the instructions on this page, and if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to contact us.

Always ensure that the correct fuel mixture is used, and the correct type of oil, according to manufacturer’s instructions. If unsure, check the operating manual for the machine. Failure to follow manufacturer’s instructions may damage the machine and invalidate the warranty.

Ensure that the fuel is well mixed by shaking the container in which it is mixed, before pouring into the tank.

Fuel types

  • Brushcutter’s, lawn edgers and lawn mowers use an oil/petrol mixture (2 stroke). 
  • Ride on mowers use unleaded petrol (ULP).

Cautions

  • The refuelling area must be open, unobstructed, and with adequate ventilation
  • Fuels are to be stored in a cool place, in containers approved for the storage of fuels
  • Use a funnel when placing fuel into the tank, and take care not to spill the fuel. If any fuel is spilled on the machine, wipe it with a clean rag to remove all traces of fuel. NEVER start machine if you have spilled fuel on your clothes - change your clothes first
  • All machines are to be moved at least 3 metres from the refuelling area before they are started up
  • Petrol is extremely flammable.  If spilled and ignited by a spark or other ignition source, it will cause serious burns to the operator and/or property damage.  An approved fire extinguisher, a rake or shovel and sand or a piece of canvas to smother small flames should be kept close to the refuelling area
  • Fuel vapour pressure may build up inside the fuel tank – depending on the fuel used, the weather conditions and the ventilation system of the tank. In order to prevent the risk of personal injury from escaping petrol vapour and fumes, remove the fuel filler cap on the machine slowly to allow any pressure build up in the fuel tank to escape slowly
  • Never remove the filler cap while the engine is running
  • Smoking is prohibited while fuelling or operating machinery, and within at least 3 metres of a fuel or refuelling area
  • Before refuelling, engine must be turned off, and allowed to cool. Use this time as an opportunity to take a rest break
  • If fuel or oil leakage is found, DO NOT start or run the engine until the leak is fixed
  • Clean around the fuel cap to remove any dirt or foreign matter, which can disrupt operations if it gets into the fuel tank
  • All guards and other safety devices and attachments must be in place before operating the machine
  • A pre-start check, according to manufacturers guidelines is to be carried out on all machinery before use
