Avoid Reduce Reuse Recycle
Waste needs to be managed at community and recreation facilities in a sustainable manner by following the Waste Management Hierarchy - Avoid Reduce Reuse Recycle.
- Avoid
- Avoid unnecessary product consumption by not using single use items such as individual sauce containers, plastic bags and disposable cups and plates.
- Reduce
- Reduce packaging and waste by buying refills where possible, buying in bulk and buying concentrates rather than diluted products.
- Reuse
- Reuse items instead of disposing of them.
- Recycle
- Recycle as much as possible including paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers and steel and aluminium cans. Visit www.recycleright.com.au if you're not sure if something can be recycled or not. You can also see what other non-standard items can be recycled and where by downloading Lake Macquarie's Recycling Directory.
Eco Angel program
The Eco Angel Program is designed to help schools, community groups, businesses and individuals come together and keep Lake Macquarie clean all year round.
Council will provide everything you need to clean up and will dispose of the waste you collect for free. If users of sportsgrounds wish to clean up the grounds, gardens and surrounds of their facility, please visit the Eco Angels page on the LMCC website to register.
