Smart Water Choices

You may already know that Hunter Water lifted water restrictions as of 1 October, they have however adopted Smart Water Choices which reinforces watering only before 10am or after 4pm, using a hose with a trigger nozzle, sprinkler or irrigation system.

Council supports this Hunter Water initiative and reminds all turf playing field and turf wicket curators that use of “manual sprinklers” should only be used in accordance with these rules and furthermore:

  • no longer than 2 hours without relocating
  • under no circumstances should manual sprinklers be left to operate overnight
  • prioritise water to higher wear areas where the turf has worn out to promote turf recovery before summer (e.g. goal mouths, centre kick-off areas, interchange areas).

We have been fortunate that enough rain has come to allow restrictions to be lifted giving us access to town water supply, however Community and Hunter Water expectations around Councils efficient use of water are high, it is up to all of us to use this resource appropriately.

Please help us get this message to all persons charged with undertaking irrigation of turf playing fields, including of course wicket curators.
